Partha Sarathi Mahanta, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has demonstrated exceptional dedication and versatility throughout his career, particularly in his role as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Chief of the Special Task Force (STF) in Assam.
Professional Achievements:
Leadership in STF: Under IGP Mahanta’s stewardship, the STF has executed strategic operations targeting drug trafficking, counterfeit currency, and other criminal activities, yielding remarkable outcomes.
Recognition: In acknowledgment of their exceptional service, IGP Mahanta and five other STF members were honored with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak.
Academic Pursuits: Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning, IGP Mahanta completed his Ph.D. from Assam Down Town University. His research focused on “A Comprehensive Analysis of Challenges and Strategies to Attain Work-Life Balance in the Police Profession, with a Special Emphasis on the Guwahati Police Commissionerate.”
Recent Operations:
In December 2024, IGP Mahanta led a significant operation resulting in the arrest of eight terror suspects, including a Bangladeshi national. This operation, conducted across Kerala, West Bengal, and Assam, thwarted plans to target members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other Hindu organizations, underscoring his commitment to maintaining communal harmony and regional stability.
Creative Endeavors:
Beyond his policing duties, IGP Mahanta has made notable contributions to the arts. He wrote and directed the short film “Lachit The Warrior,” which won the Best Animation Film Award at the 7th Chambal International Film Festival. The film is a biopic on the life of the Assamese General Lachit Barphukan.
