The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Assam, has honored the STF Chief of Assam Police, Mr. Parthasarathi Mahanta, IPS, with the ‘Sahosi’ (Gallantry) Award. This award is instituted in memory of Martyr Dimbeswar Gogoi, who sacrificed his life fighting for national ideals and against insurgency forces.
Today is observed as Anti-Terror Day. The Tai Ahom community, the largest in Assam, ruled the state for six hundred years—from the 13th century to the advent of British rule in the early 19th century. The Ahom kingdom is renowned for its resistance against the Mughals, who, despite attacking Assam 17 times, could not conquer the state permanently.
The ‘Sahosi’ Award recognizes the relentless efforts of Mr. Parthasarathi Mahanta in combating various insurgent groups, jihadist activities, and his exceptional contribution to the special drive against drug trafficking. Mr. Mahanta is currently serving as IGP Administration, Special Task Force, Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences, and Traffic & Road Safety.
This recognition highlights his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Assam.
