Filmmaker and Spiritualist Ramira Taneja Explores the Power of Storytelling in Consumer Insights

New Delhi:  Filmmaker, entertainment entrepreneur and spiritualist Ramira recently addressed an online gathering of consumer insights and market research professionals on the growing importance of storytelling in communicating data and insights.
The interactive Google Meet session, titled “How Storytelling Turns Consumer Insights into Business Impact,” was organised by Sucheta from Gurgaon, Delhi, a market research analyst. Ramira was joined by her co-speaker Hrushikesh Kulkarni, an author and senior marketing and research professional. The session saw participation from several professionals from the consumer insights and research community.
Drawing from her experience in filmmaking and her work in spirituality, philosophy and intuitive practices, Ramira explored how the principles of cinema and human behaviour can help professionals communicate complex information more effectively.
She drew a parallel between filmmaking and insights work, explaining that a filmmaker may shoot hundreds of hours of material but ultimately has to identify what truly matters to the story. Similarly, insights professionals may work with extensive data and research, but their effectiveness often depends on their ability to identify the central insight and communicate why it matters.
A key theme of her session was the distinction between plot and story. “The plot is what happens. The story is what it means,” she explained, using examples from cinema to illustrate how deeper meaning often lies beneath the surface of events.
Ramira also introduced participants to the concept of observation versus interpretation, drawing from her spiritual and intuitive work. Through interactive exercises, participants explored how the same visual or narrative information can be interpreted differently depending on individual experiences, perceptions and conditioning.
The session also examined the changing role of storytelling in the age of Artificial Intelligence. While AI can increasingly analyse large volumes of information, identify patterns and generate content, Ramira emphasised the continuing importance of human qualities such as curiosity, judgement, empathy, context and intuition.
“The future isn’t necessarily about having more information. It is about having the ability to see what the information is trying to tell us,” Ramira said.
The discussion concluded with the idea that storytelling can act as a bridge between information and action—helping professionals move from data to insight, insight to understanding, and understanding to better decisions.
For Ramira, the session represented a natural intersection of her two professional worlds: cinema and the exploration of human consciousness, demonstrating how storytelling can become a valuable skill even in highly data-driven professional environments.
